Timothy Arthur Smith

POYNETTE - Timothy Arthur Smith, age 52, of Poynette, passed away on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, at UW Hospital, in Madison, WI, surrounded by his family and devoted friends.

Tim was born on December 19, 1973, in Belgium, the son of John Marcellus and Judith Ann (Miller) Smith. After graduating high school, Tim attended the UW-Platteville where he transferred his degree from engineering to theatre and IT, graduating in 1996 with a BA/BS. Tim was the president of the Platteville Gaming Association for 4 years, as well as a member of the theatre group in Platteville. He was later a member of the Broom Street Theatre Group in Madison for 3 years.

Tim worked various jobs doing IT, as a Network Administrator.  Most recently Tim worked as a Network Administrator at Research Products, where he ran the inventory network. The family thanks Research Products for their understanding and commitment to Tim’s health.

Tim was a licensed glider pilot and avid Ducati enthusiast. He was a member of the Whitewater Hang Gliding Club as well as the Soaring Society in Hartford. He was currently working on his small aircraft pilot license. Tim rode Ducati’s for 19 years and loved to participate in the Ducati rides and rallies. Tim loved to be in the sky. A man of many talents, Tim was also a ski instructor in Galena, IL at Chestnut Mountain for 5 years, as well as a participant in the Horribly Hilly 100 Bike race for 4 years. Tim wintered at McMurdo Station, Antarctica doing IT rewiring for the base. He traveled the world extensively.

Tim will long be remembered for his dry, sarcastic, witty sense of humor. He was loved by all his friends and to his nieces and nephews, he was known as the “favorite Uncle."

He is survived by his parents, John and Judy Smith; his brother, Christopher (Dawn) Smith; sister, Cathe (Mike) Smith-Kupari; his niece and nephews, Mirielle Smith, Jamison Smith, Marc Smith; other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marcellus and Mary Smith, Elmer and Meta Miller; aunt and uncle, Ruth and Harold Wells; and aunt, Carol Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Whispering Pines Event Center, in Poynette, WI, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The family would like to thank the UW Health East Madison Hospital ER and palliative care staff and physicians for their love and care. A very, special, extra, thanks to Dr. Noelle LoConte and her Nurse Practitioner for their special attention and love given to Tim.
