Maisie Layne Schelvan

April 13, 1994 – June 12, 2026

PORTAGE — It is with profound sadness that the family of Maisie Layne Schelvan announces her passing on June 12, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Anorexia Nervosa.

Maisie was born on April 13, 1994, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, to Daniel and Melanie (Nelson) Schelvan. She was blessed from the very beginning, entering the world alongside her identical twin and growing up with two loving sisters, all close in age and spirit. The family later relocated to Portage, Wisconsin, where Maisie graduated high school in 2012. She went on to earn her degree in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a testament to her intelligence and determination.

Maisie built a career she was proud of, working at Festival Foods in Verona before transferring to the Baraboo location to be closer to the family she cherished. She treasured every moment spent with her best friend and twin, Laney, and was an adoring and enthusiastic aunt to her five nieces and nephews. To them, she was "Auntie Mais" — and by all accounts, the very best one.

She is survived by her parents, Daniel (Angela) Schelvan and Melanie Schelvan (Andy); her sisters, Mannie (Nick) Brey, Laney (Wyatt) Nuss, and Ferrin (Brett) Banker; stepbrothers, Devin and Jaxon Daugherty; grandparents, Jim and Sharon Nelson and Gerald Martin; and her beloved nieces and nephews.  Maisie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Violet and David Schelvan and Shirley Martin; and her special aunt, Heidi Lieuwen.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home, in Portage.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, in Portage.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Maisie's memory to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home, in Portage, is assisting the family.
