Jean Muriel Syftestad

NEW BERLIN – Jean Muriel Syftestad, age 96, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born on May 20, 1928, in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of William E. and Etta J. Arntson. She married Paul Syftestad on April 8, 1952, in LaCrosse, WI. Jean went to La Crosse State Teacher’s College and worked as an elementary teacher in Richland Center and Portage. She enjoyed baking, cooking hearty meals, loved playing card games including bridge, euchre and cribbage, and also loved square dancing with Paul. Jean was a proud mother of 5 children, who were raised in Portage; and 7 grandchildren.  Jean’s legacy is love and dedication to family.

She is survived by her children, Karin Syftestad, Kristin “Kip” Barber, Pete (Kristin) Syftestad, and Paul (Jill) Syftestad; her grandchildren, Christopher, Kristina, and Lezer Barber, Emma, Claire, Olivia, and Katherine “Katie” Syftestad; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and son, Eric.

A Memorial Service and Inurnment will be private.
