Nancy Jane Hmira

DOUGLAS TOWNSHIP – Nancy Jane Hmira, age 90, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Randolph Health Services.

Nancy was born on January 8, 1935, in Illinois, the daughter of John Joseph and Josephine Anna (Kurak) Quinn. She graduated from the Academy of Our Lady and received her four-year degree from Beverly Business College. Nancy married the love of her life, John Joseph Hmira, Sr., on June 11, 1955, in St. Ethelreda Church. She was a manager at Nelco Chemical Company, in Naperville, IL, and a Legal Assistant with Kammer Law, in Portage, WI. Nancy attended St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was a member of Briggsville American Legion Post #329 Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, gardening with flowers in pots, and selling antiques in her Reedsburg shop.

She is survived by her son, John J. “Bear” Hmira, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John J. Hmira, Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, in Briggsville, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, in Briggsville. A visitation will be held at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home (www.pmmfh.com), in Portage, on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or the local food pantry.
