Sandra “Sandy” Ann Gustafson

PORTAGE –  Sandra “Sandy” Ann Gustafson (nee Roecker), age 87, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Aspirus Divine Savior in Portage.

Sandy was born on April 24, 1938, in Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Long) Roecker. Sandy married Larry Eugene Gustafson on June 21, 1958, at St John’s Lutheran Church in Portage.

Sandy was a “meter maid” for the City of Portage Police Department from 1970 until she retired in 1996. Sandy was the team “skip” and fierce curling competitor-feared by all in the state! Sandy was the Badger Ladies Champion multiple times over many years. Sandy achieved multiple “8-Enders” which is like a hole in one in golf. She loved her Budweiser Beer while curling. Sandy and her late husband Larry were members of the Portage Boat Club and enjoyed boating on Swan Lake and both the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Sandy enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Lisa) Gustafson and their sons Timothy (Amber) and their daughter Madalyn, Spencer (Miranda) and their son Harvey; Michael (Marlo) and their son Mitchell; , brothers Ross (the late Susan) Roecker, Daryl (Betty) Roecker and sister Wanda Roecker and special nephew Greg Goetz as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Larry, sister-in-law, Susan Roecker, and nephew, Joseph Roecker.

In keeping with Sandy’s wishes, a private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Columbia County Humane Society in Sandy’s name.

Sandy’s family would like to extend special thanks to her neighbors, Ron, Carrie, Bonnie and Craig for their care and support.
