Kenneth A. Curless
PORTAGE – Kenneth A. Curless, 83, of Portage, WI, passed away on Saturday, February 8th, surrounded by his loving family.
Kenneth was born to Richard and Evelyn Curless and lived a life filled with warmth, joy, and a deep love for those around him. A dedicated worker, Kenneth, was employed at General Motors in Janesville, WI for 31.5 years before retiring in 1996. His career marked a period of steady commitment, but it was his personal life where his passion truly shined.
A man who cherished the simple joys of life, Kenneth found happiness in many ways. His yard was a place where he poured his heart, and he could often be found cruising the roads in his beloved '72 Buick Riviera. Whether it was playing sheepshead, poker, dirty clubs, cribbage, or euchre, he was always at the center of any game, his competitive spirit and warmth bringing out the best in everyone. His voice, a soulful and comforting presence, filled the air as he sang along to his favorite tunes by Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, and Gene Watson.
Kenneth graduated from Brodhead High School in 1959, and later proudly served in the Army from 1960 to 1961. But his greatest joy came from his family. Kenneth was devoted to his grandchildren and loved them deeply, often expressing how proud he was of them. His legacy of love and devotion will live on through them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Evelyn Curless; his sister, Ione Moyer; and his brother, Richard Curless. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Joanne Curless; son Derek (Lisa) Curless of Friendship; daughter Belinda Pfeifer of Brodhead; sister Cindy (Jeff) Hurst of Evansville; and brother Pete (Judy) Curless of Janesville; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
There are countless people that have supported Ken over the past several years - he is now at peace with the horrible disease that robbed him from all of us. A celebration of life will be held, at a later date, to honor Kenneth's life, a life lived with passion, joy, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be remembered fondly by all who know him.
The Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home, in Portage, is assisting the family.
