Phyllis L. Zimmerman

PORTAGE – Phyllis L. Zimmerman, 88, of Portage was called home by her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2024.

Phyllis was born February 23, 1936, in Westfield, WI, daughter of F. Lynn and Verna McMillen. She graduated from Endeavor-Oxford Union High School, in May 1954. On June 4, 1955, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Walter F. Zimmerman, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Portage, WI. Together they raised four children on their family farm, in Lewiston Township. Phyllis was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served on the Ladies Guild, the Altar Guild, and as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Lewiston Homemakers Club and a leader for the Menominee Merrymakers 4-H Club. She was one of the ladies that made the BBQ for the 4-H Food Stand, she was a phenomenal cook and baker. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Kim (Richard) Schutz, of Endeavor, Stuart (Jean) Zimmerman, of Portage, Lynn (Matthew) Hauser, of Kansasville, and Paul Zimmerman, of Portage; grandchildren, Jenyl Zimmerman (Les Dewbre), of Oregon, Lindsay Schutz (Clint Paul), of Appleton, Joshua (Carmen) Zimmerman, of Baraboo, Michael (Elisabeth) Schutz, of Portage, Joel (Laura) Zimmerman, of Wisconsin Dells, Seth (Isabella) Zimmerman, of Fort Richardson, Alaska, Jacob Hauser, of Kansasville, Luke (Caroline) Zimmerman, of Portage, and Ethan Zimmerman, of Portage; five great grandchildren; and Jennifer Zimmerman of Portage, Wisconsin. She is also survived by Ardyce McMillen, of Reedsburg, Rita (Mel) Licht, of Baraboo, and El Marie Gibson, of Prairie du Sac; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, of 54 years; her granddaughter, Amanda Phyllis Hauser; and her brother, Donald McMillen.

Funeral Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Portage, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Greg Hovland officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Silver Lake Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Orphan Grain Train.
