Eleanor Walters

POYNETTE – Eleanor Walters was reunited with her husband, Byron, in heaven on Monday, December 30th, 2024.  Eleanor was born on October 6, 1931, to Hilton and Helen (Bull) Curtis.

She attended the University of Stevens Point and graduated in 1953 with a degree in home economics.  Eleanor married Byron Walters on April 18th, 1953, the first person to call her Elly, and the love of her life.

They purchased the family farm in Lowville and together dairy farmed.  Together they have three children: Curt (Bev), David (Jeannine), and Kathryn (Brian Lindner); her AFS daughter, Blanca Riveros, of Brooklyn, New York;  nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by her brother, Hugh (Norma) Curtis, of Wausau, and many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Elbridge (Marlene) Curtis, of Merrill; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara (John) Gardner.

Elly was a member of the Poynette Presbyterian Church.  She was an active member, teaching, singing in the choir, and superintendent of Bible and Sunday school for many years.

She will be remembered as someone who always would lend a helping hand, invite you to dinner, and always saw the good in people.  Her positive and faithful outlook, no matter the situation, was uplifting to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Poynette Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Clara Thompson officiating.  Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. on Monday in Rocky Run Cemetery, Township of Lowville.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
