Roger Allen Schultz
PORTAGE – Roger Allen Schultz, age 72 passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Columbia Healthcare Center, in Wyocena, WI after a ten-month battle with cancer. Roger was born June 10, 1952, the son of Stanley and Martha (Goephert) Schultz in Monroe, Wisconsin. He attended high school in Pecatonica, Illinois.
As the second of four children, Roger shared his childhood with his siblings Richard Schultz, Linda Wade and Debra (Max) Archibald. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard, as well as, his nephews, Keith and Kevin Archibald, niece, Kimberly Wade, and great nephew, Hunter Morgan.
Roger’s journey in life included his marriages to Geraldine Olson and, later, to Louise Pawley. With Geraldine, he welcomed three children into the world: Shane (Shelly Prater) Schultz, of LaCrosse, WI, Angela (Jason Arena) Schultz, of Newton, KS, and Shawne Schultz, of Galesville, WI. In his marriage to Louise Pawley, he also welcomed three children: Trinity Schultz, Shannon Schultz, and Chelsea Schultz, all of Cody, Wyoming.
Roger was blessed with a large loving family, including his six children, 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 12 nieces and nephews, and 14 great nieces and nephews. Roger worked a rugged lifestyle as a farm and ranch hand in the dairy industry and lambing sheds, and breaking horses. He transitioned through various jobs in the oil fields, maintenance, mechanic, and tow truck driver. Roger is known for being a “jack=of=all=trades”, always tinkering with his old Chevys, lawn mowers, and anything else with a small engine. Roger loved the outdoors, especially with his animals; from his special dogs Roofus and Sheba to his chickens, turkeys, cows, and horses.
In August 2020, Roger faced a significant challenge when he suffered a fall that led to his move to Amberwood Nursing Home. Despite his significant injuries he suffered as a result of his fall, he showed us how stubborn and determined he was to continue living his life. In October 2023, Roger received a stage four cancer diagnosis that prompted a move back to Wisconsin, where he spent his final days at Columbia
County Nursing Home.Roger’s journey may have come to an end, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return. A private celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, where his family will gather to honor his memory.
Roger’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice and staff of Columbia County Nursing Home, for their exceptional care and friendship during his last ten months with us.
