Hilbert Gerald “Butch” Schehr

PORTAGE – Hilbert Gerald “Butch” Schehr, age 82, of Portage, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Butch was born on January 22, 1942, in Portage, the son of Eugene and Helen (Kluge) Schehr. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Rose Schwellenbach, on September 30, 1961, in Portage. They had 60 wonderful years together and were blessed with three children: Penny, Cory, and Brett. Butch was a very hard worker. He worked at Madison Kip, ABG Plastics, then Tri-Enda, ending as a supervisor. After retiring, Marilyn and Butch would travel and enjoyed going to casinos. Butch was not one to let grass grow under his feet and needed to keep himself busy, so he started a part-time job at Adessa, where he made so many wonderful friends.  Butch loved watching the Packers, and NASCAR.  And if you knew Butch, you also know he was an avid outdoorsman.  Hunting, fishing, trapping, snowmobiling, camping; you name it, he did it!  Butch enjoyed the outdoors immensely.  He also had a special bond with his “buddy,” grandson, Craig. Butch, Craig, and Marilyn would go on road trips quite often together which included a stop for a sweet treat. Butch’s favorite was a root beer float or a strawberry shake.

He is survived by his daughter, Penny (Terry) Hanson; sons Cory (Gayle) Schehr and Brett (Tammie) Schehr; grandchildren, Craig Schehr, Courtney Schehr, Breanna Schehr, and Worren Schehr; and great grandson, Theo Oak; sisters-in-law, Rose Schehr and Elaine Schehr; a brother-in-law, Dale Johnson; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; brothers, Morris, Norman, and Darrel; sister, Deanna Johnson.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Craig for all the love and support a grandkid could give.  We would also like to thank hospice care, especially Allison, for everything you did for us that night.
