Becky Otto

HARRISVILLE – Becky Otto, age 75, of Harrisville, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in an accidental fire at her home.

Becky was born on February 24, 1949, in the State of Washington, and was adopted by Ben and Betty (Bradshaw) Shallit.  Becky Graduated High School in Scottsdale, AZ.  Growing up Becky spent the winters in Scottsdale, AZ at the base of CamelBack Mountain and summers at her father’s Cripple Creek coal mine in Fairbanks Alaska.

Becky married James Otto at  the  Caledonia Presbyterian Church and raised four  boys.  She was a homemaker and later worked at General Indicator Co. (Everbrite) in Pardeeville.  Becky also worked as a cashier at several gas stations in the Lake Delton area where she enjoyed talking with locals and meeting new friends.  Becky was best known for treating friends like family and strangers as friends. 

Becky & Dave lived in Wasilla, Alaska for 10 years and enjoyed moose watching and spending  time with friends and family.  They volunteered and received recognition for their work on the Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats organization.

Becky and Dave moved back to Wisconsin in 2012 to the Town of Harris where Becky was reconnected with her friends and neighbors including Darlene & Joyce. Becky looked forward to her Tuesday grocery shopping trips and spending time with Marsha.  Becky & Dave enjoyed  “Taco Tuesday” at Mikeys, their extended family at Culvers in Portage and Sunday family breakfast at the Pioneer in Westfield where she would get her “usual” Waffles with Ice Cream.

Becky was a member of the Red Hat Society and was an avid reader.  She loved gardening, canning and enjoyed sending Happy Birthday messages on Facebook.  Becky was a great “hugger”.   Becky & Dave spoiled their cat, Oni, who will sadly be missed as well.

She is survived by her partner, Dave Hopper; her children, Christopher Otto, Carlyle Otto, Cory Otto, Clint (Heidi Konkel) Otto, Dennis Hopper, Bob (Mary Jo Granger) Hopper, and Scott (Liz) Hopper;  her sister, Bena (Norris Orbach) Shallit;  her brothers, Brad (Carol) Shallit,  and Terry (Dawn) Williams;  other relatives and many friends. Becky had many grandchildren, and many considered her as grandma.  Becky was so proud that after searching her whole life for blood relatives she was able to find & meet her half brother Terry.

Memorial services will be at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Rev. Justin O’Boyle officiating.  Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and in tribute to Becky’s pay it forward way of living; they will be dispersed to numerous non profits.
