Clarence Glenn Childs
TOWNSHIP OF LEWISTON – Clarence Glenn Childs, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, the 18th of December 2024.
Glenn was born on October 10, 1939, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, in his grandparents’ home. Glenn graduated from Poynette High School in 1957, where he met his high school sweetheart, Donna McCormick. They united in marriage on December 28, 1960. Glenn enlisted in the Navy in 1959, where he was stationed in Brunswick, Georgia, then later transferred to Kodiak, Alaska. Glenn worked as a supervisor for Research Products, in Poynette, where he was employed for 36 years.
Glenn had a passion for sports of all kinds - at the top of the list was men and women's fast and slow pitch softball. Coaching for the Porterhouse Supper Club men's fastpitch team and for the Frontier Bar women's slow pitch team. The highlight of Glenn's softball career was being able to play a game with his two sons, his nephew, and three grandsons. Seven out of the 10 people on the team were a part of the Childs family.
Second to his love for softball was his love for outdoor activities. Not only could he out fish and hunt everyone, but he could also carve anything out of a piece of wood. Although his life was cut a little shorter than we wanted, he was able to live the last few years surrounded by family and friends.
Glenn is survived by his sons, Mitch (Angela) Childs and Rick (Peggy Johnson) Childs; brother, Jim (Pam) Childs; sister, Donna (Don) Stoltenberg; brothers-in-law, Bill (Shirley) McCormick, Phil McCormick, and Marvin McCormick; one surviving aunt, Beverley Keeton, Rockford, IL; grandchildren Christopher (Kristi) Paskey, Kory (Michelle Colstad) Childs, Derek (Taryn) Childs, Melissa (David) Mortlock, Ericka Childs; Angela's children, Blake, Hannah, Vanessa, Janay, Macie, and Mara. He was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren: Cameron, Daniel, Elliot, Allie, Connor, Kelby, Kiera, Siera, Harper, Maverick, Blakelee, Bella, Kylie, Devar; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews; and many friends.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Donna Childs; parents, Clarence and Lorraine Childs; in laws, Joe and Margaret McCormick; and brother-in-law, Don Stoltenberg.
A celebration of life with be held on January 18, 2025, at the American Legion, 131 W. Washington St Poynette, WI 53955, starting at 12:00 p.m. noon.
