Mary Ann Bodien (Nee Selkey)

PORTAGE – Mary Ann Bodien (Nee Selkey), age 89 , of Portage died peacefully at Our House Senior Living Facility in Portage, WI on Dec 29, 2024.

Mary Ann was born in The Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on January 15, 1935, the daughter of Fred Peters Selkey and Mary Agnes Selkey.

She lived in Clifton, WI and graduated from Tomah High School in 1952. She then earned an advanced degree in Fine Arts from N.Y. University where she lived and worked for several years before moving to Portage, where she met and married Earl Bodien on June 14, 1965. They lived in San Francisco, Ca for several years before moving back to Portage where they operated the “Good Times” store and held small vending spots in nearby towns for many years together, until Earl passed away on Sept 24, 1994. She continued alone with the Good Times store for the years following. She also worked for the state of WI as a GED student test proctor and educator.

She enjoyed and loved dogs and doing sketches of people and nature. She had some close friends that she enjoyed visiting with.

She is survived by her three brothers, Fred C. Selkey, Carl K. Selkey and Peter A. Selkey; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, two sisters, Susan and Judy, her brother, John, and her sister-in-law, Diane Selkey.

A Memorial Visitation will held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, in St. Paul’s Cemetery in New Lisbon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Columbia County Humane Society.
