Jon Bedessem

PORTAGE – Jon Bedessem, a loving husband and father, died on February 2, 2024 at 69 years old. He had overcome cancer, but later succumbed to complications from preventative treatment.

Jon was born on September 2, 1954 in Reedsburg and spent his childhood in Portage. He had a long and varied career, working for GTE, the Portage School System, and the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. He had a lively, witty, and sarcastic personality. He was the most generous guy, always helping others and offering advice. He was a gracious host, who enjoyed feeding and entertaining his guests. Full of energy and vitality, he followed his interests and passions, always learning new things, and gave his best in everything he did. Jon was a jack of all trades and seemed to know how to do everything. He recently rebuilt an MGB convertible, excelled in creating stained glass, and built both of his last two houses. He loved being a dad and grandpa and enjoyed sharing his interests, such as flying, aviation, cars, and building. He also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dominos, and having a Guinness with his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Amy; daughters, Amanda and Brianna (Erickson); his grandchildren, Remy and Jimin; and his two dogs Maya and Chase.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105;  www.stjude.org/donate.

In honoring Jon’s wishes, no services will be held.  The Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
