William G. “Bill” Hewitt

PORTAGE –  William G. “Bill” Hewitt, age 91, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Monday December 25th, 2023, at Heritage House in Portage, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on April 7th, 1932, in Pardeeville. He married Marilyn Pearson on June 30th, 1951, in Portage. They were married for 68 years before Marilyn passed away in 2019. Bill served his country for over 20 years with the National Guard. He was known for his strong work ethic, working until he was 88. Bill worked for Findorf Construction for many years. After retiring from Findorf, he worked mowing lawns for the City of Portage and then Silver Lake Cemetery. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and working in his garden and flower beds.

Bill is survived by his children, Kim W. Hewitt and Cindy (Byron) Landon; three grandchildren, Cory (Jennifer) Miller, Kelly (Brian) Calkins and Kirsten (Chris) Landon; five great grandchildren, Emily and Isiah Miller, Jacob and Madelyn Calkins and Michael Lewandoski; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald “Red” Hewitt, his wife, Marilyn, his eldest daughter, Pam Miller-Krueger and his grandson, Charlie Landon.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, January 12th, 2024, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Memorial Service to follow visitation at 1:00pm. Military Honors will follow at the funeral home, provided by Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment will be private in Marcellon Cemetery.
