Violet A. Manthey

PORTAGE – Violet A. Manthey, age 89, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home in Portage.

Violet was born on December 9, 1927, in Dalton, the daughter of George and Capitola (Sherman) Kiefer.  She was married on August 25, 1951 to Herbert O. Manthey, he preceded her in death.  Violet loved reading and writing her stories, and just finished her autobiography.  She looked forward to traveling and going for sightseeing rides, including stops for ice cream.  She enjoyed walking in the cemetery and getting together with friends to play cards.  Violet’s faith and family were very important to her.  She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, where she sang in the church choir. 

She is survived by her children, William (Linda) Manthey, Marion Kopfhamer, all of Portage, and Russell (Sheri) Manthey, of Maryville, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Jacqueline Manthey, Sheena (Carlos) Tidwell III, Tyler Manthey; step-grandchildren, Chris (Rebecca) Kopfhamer, Melissa (Wade) Kaiser, and Justin (Megan) Kopfhamer; seven step-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sydney Kopfhamer, Trey and Kimber Kaiser, and Celia, Jason and Catherine Kopfhamer; her sister, Pearl Barden, of Pardeeville, other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herb Manthey, her dear friend, Donald “Tat” Lauterbach, her son-in-law, Rusty Kopfhamer, her brothers, Clayton, Ralph, Vern, Donald and Lyle Kiefer, her sisters, Georgetta McElroy, Gladys Bulgrin, Genevieve Manthey, Verla Dolgner, and Juanita Schutz.  

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Greg Hovland officiating.  A time of fellowship will follow the graveside service at St. John's Christian Life Center. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Organ Fund, St. John’s Lutheran School Tuition Fund, or the St. John’s Lutheran Church Choir, 850 Armstrong St., Portage, WI 53901.
