Robert “Bob” J. Lane

PORTAGE – Robert “Bob” J. Lane, 62, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.

Bob was born on December 16, 1954, the son of James and L. Elizabeth “Liz” (Smith) Lane. He married Peggy Murphy on August 6, 2004 in Portage. Bob served the public most of his adult life. He retired as a Deputy from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department in 2005. He also served as an Alderman for the City of Portage and on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. He proudly served his country in both the Army and Navy during the Vietnam era. He was the owner/operator of Lane’s Full Throttle in Portage and most recently worked for O’Reilly Auto Parts in Portage. Bob was dedicated to fundraising for Veterans and had a tremendous passion for Harleys, cars, hunting, fishing and music, having attended many concerts.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lane of Pardeeville; children, Alyssa Lane of Portage, Hunter Robert Lane of Portage, Marine Lance Corporal E3 Robert Thomas Lane of Japan; grandson, Andrew James Lane; granddaughter, Arielle Elizabeth-Kay Lane; step-children, Jennifer (Joel) Heimerman of Dallas, TX, Anthony Chester of San Leandro, CA; sister, Kathy (Gary) Fulmer of Endeavor; brother, Jim Lane of Oatman, AZ; and special friend, John Grossman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Liz Lane; brother, Bruce Lane; step-son, Adam Chester; niece, Broni Fulmer; and special friend, Mark Portzen.

Funeral services will be held at Moundville United Methodist Church, County O, Endeavor, on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Susan Oeffler officiating. Burial will be follow at Moundville Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the church on December 5, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department attending as Honor Guard.
