George L. Jasinksi

PORTAGE – George L. Jasinski, age 69, of Portage, passed away peacefully at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital on October 10, 2017.

George was born on May 24, 1948, in England, the son of Jan and Catherine Jasinski. He married Irene Orzel on September 7, 1974. George received his Master’s Degree, proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era, and then worked as a rehabilitative counselor for the State of Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Jasinski of Portage; mother, Catherine Jasinski of Wyocena; sister, Christine Cirone of Wyocena; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Orzel of Arizona; nephew, Matt (Stacey) Orzel of Illinois; niece, Katie (Garret) Schmitz of Wyocena; grandnephews, Ashton and Mason; grandniece, Emma; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father.  

George was a loving husband with a generous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved spending time with his wife and their doggies. He was diligent, resourceful, persistent, and patient in whatever job, task or project he undertook. He never gave up until the job was done. Despite ongoing health problems, he returned to school and received a Master’s Degree at the age of 44.

George enjoyed taking day trips to see the countryside with his wife. He was a movie buff, enjoyed reading about world and U.S. history. He liked muscle cars, trains, and sci-fi. He also enjoyed music, building model cars and action heroes. When he was younger, he played the accordion and was in a band.

A memorial visitation will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment will be private.

The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses for the wonderful care at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital, Dr. David Murray, Nancy Smiegowski, NP, and Dr. Matt LaConte, Marlene Johnson, RN, Dr. Susan Hylland, Dr. Aimee Walsh, and the hospice staff, and especially Dr. Alan Bridges. Also a very special thank you to our dear friends for their support, Ana, Pat, Susan, Vicky, Lesly, Sophie and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbia County Humane Society, (www.cchswi.org) N7768 Industrial Rd., Portage, WI 53901 to donate to the local community shelter, or the William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital, for the General Fund to aid local veterans.  There is no website available for this fund.  Donations should be mailed to, William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital, Attn: Community Relations, 2500 Overlook Terrace, Madison, WI 53705.  There will be envelopes available at the funeral home for donations to both of these charities also.
