Charles H. Gaffney

BRIGGSVILLE – Charles H. Gaffney, 69, of Briggsville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Columbia County Health Care Center in Wyocena after a battle with cancer.

Charlie was born May 15, 1948, in Big Spring to Stanley and Betty Gaffney. Charlie graduated from the Wisconsin Dells School in 1966 and enlisted into the Army following graduation. He was stationed in Fort Meade, MD, and made his home in Brunswick, MD, after his discharge.

With much joy, Charlie returned to Wisconsin and purchased a small farm outside of Briggsville. Charlie worked at AMPI, Sysco Foods, and Cardinal Glass. He was a member on the Briggsville American Legion Post 329.

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his daily visits and glass of wine with Ma. His greatest joys were driving tractors, deer hunting, going to South Dakota, prairie dog hunting and taking his motorcycle on country rides.

Charlie was blessed with four children: Chad, Brunswick, MD, Corey, Denver, CO, Trevor, Briggsville, WI, and Melissa, Lake Delton, WI. He had three beautiful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Gaffney, Wisconsin Dells, WI; siblings, Michael (Melody), Glenwood, MN, Ginny (Jim) Joyce, Briggsville, WI, and Charlene Zinke, Burley, WA. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley, and siblings, Susan Santulli and Tom Gaffney.

A celebration of life will be held at the Briggsville American Legion on Thursday, January 18, at 10:30 a.m. with a program starting at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at the VA Hospital, Agrace HospiceCare and Columbia County Health Care Center for the care they gave Charlie.
