Melvin “Mel” L. Egger

POYNETTE – Melvin “Mel” L. Egger, 88, of Poynette, passed away peacefully at Tivoli in Portage on Thursday, January 18, 2018.

On March 26, 1929, Mel was born into a dairy-farming family in south-central Minnesota, the youngest of 4 children. At the age of 17, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 1st Calvary Division which was the personal division of Douglas McArthur. His travels eventually led him to Poynette where he met and married Joan Loomis. They raised 3 children while working more than 20 years as a licensed radio operator for WIBU and also worked 20 years for Research Products.

He is survived by his children, Janelle (Jack) Bagley, Mark (Ruth) Egger, Marla (Miles) Hill; sister of 92 years, Violet Anderson; granddaughter, Rochelle Hill; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be private.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tivoli and Agrace HospiceCare for their care and support.
