Steven L. Doherty

POYNETTE – Steven L. Doherty, age 60, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017, surrounded by his family, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. 

Steven was born on January 31, 1957 in Portage, the son of James and Ellen (Bradley) Doherty.  He was married to Edie Marie Gehin on December 3, 1977, and then to Abby Koltes on August 14, 2004.  Steve had worked for Findorff Construction as well as Koltes Lumber in Waunakee.  He was currently employed at Weaver Auto Parts in Portage.  He had been a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette. Steve deeply loved his family and friends.  His passion was restoring cars with his kids and attending car shows.  Steve always looked forward to his family gatherings.  He was loved by his entire Irish family and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.  Anyone that knew Steve would know that he is looking down smiling and giving us a big “Doherty” wave. 

He is survived by his wife, Abby Koltes, of Waunakee, his children, Tracie (Steve) Gavinski, of Poynette, Travis (Hollie) Doherty, of Arlington, Tyler Doherty and Timothy (Jessica) Doherty, all of Poynette; the mother of his children, Edie Gehin, of Poynette; his step-children Amanda (Ross) Tennent, of Waunakee, Jordan (Ashley) Taylor, of Waunakee and Cubby (Emily) Taylor, of Mazomanie; his grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Owen, Liam, Berkley, Hayden, Audrey, Stella, Fiona, Haley, Lydia and Collin; his siblings, James Doherty and Gene (Gerry) Doherty all of Poynette, Kathy (Rich) Leach, of Montana, Susie (Dennis) Fuller, of Oxford, and Barbara Doherty, of Poynette, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 4th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette with Fr. Balaraju Eturi presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Poynette, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established by the family.

The family would like to thank the amazing team at St. Mary’s MICU and his primary care physician, Dr. Bill Ranum for their excellent care.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.
