Eleanor A. Long Docter

PORTAGE  --  Eleanor A. Long Docter, age 99, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Tivoli in Portage.

Eleanor was born on January 14, 1918 in the Town of Little Black, the daughter of Fred Christian Long and Mary Cecelia (Rothamer) Long.  She graduated from Medford High School in 1935, was a graduate of Taylor County Normal School, and taught school for 5 years.  Eleanor married Arthur P. Docter on May 10, 1941.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage. She belonged to the Women’s Civic League, the Elkettes, and the Catholic Women’s Club.  She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, playing Bingo and spending time with her family.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Rona Lee Christopherson, Portage, and Diane (Mike) Mueller, New Braunfels, Texas;  her sons, Lynn Docter, Madison, and John (Lisa) Docter, Oconomowoc;  her grandchildren, Deborah (Nolan) Teigen, Theresa (Ryan) Cin, Sarah Docter, Traci McDonald, Chet (Beverly) Mueller, Stephanie and Matthew Docter;  nine great-grandchildren;  two step-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.  Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, her brothers, Frederick, Harold, and Elmer Long, her sisters, Mabel Schubert and Helen Kroll, and a daughter, Margaret in infancy.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage House and of Tivoli for their care of our mother.
