Catherine “Helen” Cox

FORT ATKINSON - Catherine “Helen” Cox, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 19, 2018.

Helen was born on January 14, 1932, in New Haven Township, the daughter of John and Martha (Plutowski) Griffin. She married Fred Cox on June 15, 1949, at St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Briggsville. Catherine enjoyed gardening, baking—especially pies, taking care of her family, her dogs, vacationing—especially to Ireland to see where her family emigrated from, the Packers and road trips.  

She is survived by her children, Christine (Joe) Buckner, Fred (Janet) Cox, Jean Cox, and James (Mary Jill) Cox; grandchildren, Joe, Jamie, Kevin, Robert, Adam, and David Buckner, H. Laura Cox, Tracie Davis, Kurt and Kyle Cox, Jason Cox and Sara Hayes; siblings, John (Phyllis) Griffin, Margaret Cartwright, Esther Bingham, Delores (Tom) Hilgendorf, Mike (Evelyn) Griffin, Pat (Mary) Griffin, Dennis (Guadelupe) Griffin, Barbara Buye, Thomas (Karen) Griffin, Jeanette (Wayne) Phillips, sister-in-law, Ellen Griffin; 27 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Griffin; husband, Fred Cox; siblings, Robert (Georgia) Griffin, James Griffin, Mary (Donnie) Schwanz, Delia Wenkman; infant sister, Geraldine Rose Griffin and her brother-in-law, Ted Cartwright.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Help of Christians in Briggsville on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Briggsville. Visitation will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday, January 26, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Briggsville.
