Raymond C. Dorn

PORTAGE  --  Raymond C. Dorn, age 92, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital, in the presence of his loving family.

Ray was born on August 31, 1925 in Waunakee, Wisconsin, the son of John and Agnes (Maly) Dorn.  He was married to Madeline M. “Maggie” Clemens on July 31, 1947 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Dane.  Ray was the owner and president of Portage Lumber.  He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage and the Dr. C. W. Henney Knights of Columbus Council #1637.  Ray was a founding member of the Zona Gale Center, now the Portage Center for the Arts, and sat on the board of Associated Bank.  He was a 50 year member of the Portage Country Club, and was also a member of the Portage Boat Club and B.P.O.E. Lodge #675, Portage.  Ray was also a member of Mid-Wisconsin Home Builders Association and many other business and professional organizations.  He and Maggie enjoyed great summers on Swan Lake and winters in Florida.  Ray was known as a humble, caring, giving man, not only to his family, but to the community as well.

He is survived by his children, Dennis (Maribeth) Dorn, Portage, Ron (Debbie) Dorn, Portage, Doreen (Vic) Herbert, Pardeeville, Michelle (Kevin) Olson, Pardeeville, and Sharon (Doug) Malinski, Green Bay; his grandchildren, Kimberly Dorn, Christopher, Kyle and Bryant Herbert, Nathan Olson, Erica (Cody) Peetz, Kate (Ryan) Young, Raelle (Keith) Wick, and Scott Gundersen;  his great-grandchildren, Nahdia and Estella Herbert, Bailee Kath, Natalie and Lucas Olson, and Adaline Peetz;  his brother, Hank Dorn, Waunakee;  his sister, Betty Ripp, Waunakee;  his brother-in-law, Donald (Ginny) Clemens, Middleton;  his sisters-in-law, Lucille Clemens, Dane, and Gloria Clemens, Lodi;  other near relatives and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maggie, his grandson, Ryan Dorn, and his brother, Father Rupert Dorn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 307 W. Cook St., Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Portage Center for the Arts, 301 E. Cook St., Portage, WI  53901.
