Sylvia Mae Turner

PORTAGE – Sylvia Mae Turner, age 85, of Portage, passed away suddenly May 14, 2017, after a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration with family.

Sylvia was born on January 14, 1932, in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, to William and Marie (Berg) Schenck. She married Ralph Turner, Sr., on June 20, 1959, in Rockford, Illinois. She worked for over 30 years (1966 to 1997) at Ray-O-Vac. Sylvia attended services at the Methodist Church in Portage. She was    involved in the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #1707 and American Legion Auxiliary #215.

She is survived by her loving children, Bob (Sue) Schenck, Ralph Turner, Vickie (Ken) Bortz, Ron (Deb) Turner, Jean Standiford; sisters, Betty (Bill) Evans, Jackie Steiner; grandchildren, Chris (Christine) Schenck, Rob (Kristin) Schenck, Cami (Nic Horstmeier) Schenck, Angie (Josh) Carpenter, Lindsay (Jordan) Parker, Emily (Mike Briggs) Bortz, Isiah (Sara) Turner, Shelby Turner, Derrick (Tierney Mace) Gruenberg, Dannielle Standiford, Tina Standiford, Adeline Dolgner; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Mueller, Jen (John) Pennington; great-grandchildren, Chris Schenck, Jr., Oliver, Sawyer and Samuel Schenck, Jace Carpenter, Payton Gruenberg, Donte, Cliff and Justice Standiford, Cirenade Cruz; step-great-grandchildren, Jaime Neuhauser, Sara Pennington, Courtney Kraemer, Haylie Mueller; many loving nephews, nieces and dear friends, especially Shirley Gay. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; granddaughter, Rebecca; sisters, Joyce Braun, Norma Anderson, Shirley Turben, Sharon Schenck, Helen Achilli; brothers, William and Willis Schenck; nephews, D.J. Schenck, James and John Anderson.. She was further preceded by brothers-in-law, Arland Turben, Everett Steiner, Ray Anderson, Stanley Cross and Rio Achilli.  

Memorial services will be held at Portage United Methodist Church in Portage on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial in her honor.

The family of Sylvia wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Brenda Blohm, Tivoli, and the staff of St. Clare Hospital for the great care of their mother.
