Neil L. Smith

ARLINGTON  --  Neil L. Smith, age 84, passed away peacefully at home in Arlington on Sunday, June 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. 

Neil was born on April 5, 1932, the son of Frank Louis and Rose Anna (Falk) Smith. He married Audrey Johnson at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on October 25, 1952. Neil tended bar at the Owl’s Nest in Poynette, and then owned and operated the Prairie Inn in Leeds. He also owned his own carpentry business. Neil was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Leeds as well as Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Arlington; sons, Ned Smith, Robert (Jean) Smith, Gregory (Dixie) Smith; daughters, Julie (Randy) Mickelson and Darcie (Daniel) Steeves; brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Smith, Richard (Carol) Smith, Dennis (Deb) Smith, David Smith; sister, Nadine Krigbaum; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, other close relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Krigbaum.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, W6906 County Road K, Arlington, with Rev. Scott Schwertfeger officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Poynette Area Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
