Victor S. Schuster

Victor S. Schuster, age 91, of DeForest and formerly of Poynette, died peacefully at home on June 20, 2016.

Victor was born in Hanska, Minnesota, on January 20, 1925, the son of Michael E. and Hermina (Biebl) Schuster. He served his country proudly in the US Navy in World War II on the LST 660, from June 1943 to December 1945. He was a Motor Machinist’s Mate in the service. Victor married Bernelda Pallow on August 30, 1947, in St. Jospeh, Minnesota. He was trained as a diesel mechanic in the Navy during World War II and then worked for Greyhound Bus which brought him to Wisconsin. He later worked for the State of Wisconsin at the Hill Farms Office as a maintenance mechanic from where he retired.

Victor is survived by his loving wife Bernelda of 68 years; his 8 children, Kenneth (Romona), Rosalind (William) Gausman, Richard (Lynn), Randall (Margaret), Paula (Robert) Branton, Jeannine (David) Walters, James (Rosalie), Jacquelyn (John) Schmidt; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Victor was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters, Alice Mance, Marie Frechette, Robert, Andrew and Marcus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 623 Jefferson St., DeForest, with Fr. Vincent Brewer presiding. Military honors will be provided by the Poynette Veteran’s Honor Guard following the service.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or the Alzheimer’s organization of your choice.
