Georgia Marie Kluge

WYOCENA  --  Georgia Marie Kluge, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena.

Georgia was born on August 30, 1945 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage, the daughter of George and Esther (Price) Kluge.  She was raised in Portage and attended school in Portage.  Georgia was married to Robert C. Bortz from 1964 to 1986.  She was a homemaker and seamstress and worked at Kmart.  They had 3 sons, Tim (1964), Dean (1968) and Roy (1972).  She worked and lived in Portage after her divorce and in 1986 met Eugene Yates from Houston, Texas.  She moved with Gene to Houston.  Georgia was welcomed into his extended family and still is known to them as “Grandma Georgia”.  In Houston she worked as a law clerk until 1991 when she moved to Packwaukee with her special friend, Gene.  Together they ran the Loko Yoko pool league for several years.  She played on the teams as well.  Georgia was a fun loving person, making many friends in the pool league and the area she lived in.  She loved sewing, crocheting, cross stitching, many other crafts, and playing pool.  On February 25, 2008, Georgia was admitted to Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena, where she resided until her death due to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sharon Churchill, and an infant brother, Terry.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Tim Bortz, Dean Bortz and Roy Bortz; her grandchildren, Trevor, Taylor, Gunnar, Brett, Dylan, Becky and Cassandra; her great-grandchildren, Grayson, Sawyer, Makenna and Ezra; her brothers, Don (Patricia) Kluge and family, Doug Kluge and family; her sister, Debbie (Gary) Peterson and family; her brother-in-law, Lyle Churchill and family; many family members and friends; the daughter she never had, Heidi (Wiegand) Dowden and her family, which she loved as her own; her special friend, Eugene Yates, of Packwaukee, and his extended family, by whom she was dearly loved and will be sadly missed.  

At Georgia’s request there will be no service.  Private family inurnment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Portage.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home is assisting the family.
