Donna I. Kline

STURGIS, MI/PORTAGE, WI – Donna I. Kline, 91, passed away at Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena with family by her side on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Donna was born on February 1, 1926, in Middlebury, IN, the daughter of Ansel and Elma (Franz) Shaw. She was raised on the family farm in Shawtown, MI, and graduated from Bronson High School. She then received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and master’s degree from Central Michigan University. Donna married Dale Kline on August 28, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, MI. She taught in various areas of Michigan and at Beaverton Rural Schools until her retirement. Donna had a great love for her grandchildren and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and knitting on plastic canvas.       

Donna is survived by her children, Walter (Becky) Kline of Midland, Michigan, and Myra (Mark) Bennett of Portage, WI; sister, Mary Ann (Willard) Kime of MI; grandchildren, Kelli Kline, Kristina (Aaron) Whiting, Katherine (Taylor) Colliver, Daniel Bennett, James Bennett; great-grandchildren, Grayson Kline, Olivia Whiting, Allie Whiting, Anna-Grace and Isabella Colliver. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; infant son, George Allen Kline; two brothers and one sister, Alvin Shaw, James Shaw and Barbara Bowerman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 5:00 p.m., at Burr Oak Township Cemetery in Burr Oak, Michigan.
