Sarah L. Keppert

MADISON, WI – Sarah L. Keppert, age 38, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, after a 7 year battle with depression and alcoholism.

Sarah was born on January 28, 1979, in Madison, to her parents Judy (Kenowski) Keppert and David Keppert. Sarah grew up in Portage, along with her siblings, Chris and Amy.

Sarah was a 1997 graduate of Portage High School and went on to study at UW-Madison, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 2002.  She studied abroad in Perth, Australia and later on in college enjoyed playing on the women’s rugby team.  After graduation, Sarah served in the Peace Corps in Sofia, Bulgaria.  When she returned home, she built a successful career in the healthcare finance field, living in Chicago and San Antonio, Texas.

Sarah had a huge heart for animals and was passionate about animal rescue.  She fostered many dogs and cats, and volunteered with Shelter from the Storm.  Sarah also enjoyed traveling and her quest for the perfect white sandy beach took her to Costa Rica, Mexico, and Hawaii.  In recent years, Sarah poured her heart into being an aunt.  She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, Marcus, Madelyne, Carsten, and Brielle.  They will miss her dearly.  Sarah was full of compassion;  her favorite saying was “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

Sarah is survived by her parents, Dave and Judy Keppert;  her brother, Chris Keppert (Jen);  her twin sister, Amy Keppert (Julie);  her grandfather, Gerald Keppert;  her aunts, Judy Besson, Diane Parker, and Lin Sanford Keppert;  her uncle, Mike Kenowski (Joy);  her Keppert and Kenowski cousins;  as well as close friends, Anne, Allison and Shawna.  Sarah was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leon and Vernice Kenowski, her grandmother, Shirley Keppert and uncle, Bill Kenowski.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation made in Sarah’s name to Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue, 1602 Blossom Lane, Madison, WI  53716.

The family is grateful for the care Sarah received at UW-Madison Hospital; they extend a heartfelt thank you to the SSM Hospital staff for their tireless efforts the past few weeks, and they feel blessed for Sarah’s short time at Agrace Hospice.
