Betty M. Gruber

PORTAGE  --  Betty M. Gruber, age 82, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage.

Betty was born on March 26, 1934, in Columbia County, the daughter of William and Edna (Sheeks) Schultz. She graduated from Pardeeville High School in 1953 and married Richard Gruber at St. John’s English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pardeeville on March 7, 1958. Betty loved to cook, and worked for Portage Hosiery in Portage and Del Monte in Arlington.

She is survived by her son, Karl (Diane) Gruber, of Portage; granddaughters, Ashley Gruber of Alaska and Melinda Gruber; grandson, Kyle Gruber; step-grandson, Allan Decker, all of Baraboo; sister-in-law, Bernice Slauson of Madison; other relatives and many friends including close friend and sister-in-law, Elaine Schultz of Pardeeville. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Gruber; son, Kirt Gruber; daughter, Denise Gruber; brother, Billy Schultz; brother-in-law, Ronald Slauson; step-brothers and step-sister.

Funeral services will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Vicki Warren officiating. Burial will be private in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on December 21 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
