Shirley J. Welsh

PORTAGE – Shirley J. Welsh, age 89, passed away with family by her side on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage.

Shirley was born on April 7, 1927, in Portage, the daughter of George and Sarah (Ashley) Clemmons. She married William Welsh on September 11, 1948, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, having a tremendous love for her entire family. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of Portage; children, William P. (Jeanne E.) Welsh, Richard R. Welsh, Gregory G. Welsh, Timothy B. “Rooster” (Mary) Welsh, Peter D. (Alice E.) Welsh, John J. Welsh, Sara M. Howell; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and special friend, Vito Cefalu. She is further survived by many other dear relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters and her daughter-in-law, Teresa M. Welsh.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portage. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Portage Food Pantry, 405 E. Howard Street or Knights of Columbus #1637 Dr. CW Henney Council, 304 Bluffview Ct., both in Portage, WI 53901.
