Jane Katherine Amend York

PORTAGE  --    Jane Katherine Amend York, age 91, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Heritage House in Portage.

Jane was born on January 9, 1923 in Portage, the daughter of Frank and Vivian (Waite) Sweeney.  Jane went to school at St. Mary Catholic School and Portage High School.  After graduation, she married  Bernard J. “B.J.” Amend in Dubuque, Iowa.  B.J. preceded her in death in 1976.  She later married Warren York, who preceded her in death in 1997.  Jane enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader, but what gave her the most enjoyment was her family.  She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her sons, William (Peggy), James (Terri), Thomas, Timothy (Dawn), all of Portage, and Daniel (Lisa) of Southlake, TX;  her daughter, Joanne (John) VanWie of Wisconsin Dells;  daughter-in-law, Pam (Burt) Amend, High Wycombe, England; 18 grandchildren;  18 great-grandchildren;  along with Warren’s family;  other near relatives and many friends.  Jane was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Jean and Joan, sons B.J. II, and B.J. III, her daughter-in-law, Sue (Daugherty) Amend, and grandson, James. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 309 Cook St. in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Krumpos and his staff, as well as everyone at the Heritage House, especially Colleen and staff, for their contributions to Jane’s quality of life.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary School, 315 W. Cook St., Portage, WI  53901.
