Jean M. Wetzel “Grandma”

PORTAGE - Jean M. Wetzel “Grandma”, age 64, of Portage, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Jean was born on September 16, 1950 in Sheboygan to Otto and Rosella (Hermann) Richter Jr.  She was a loving wife and mother who fought her hardest to give her family more then they deserved. There were many things in life that Jean was especially proud of. This included her sobriety from alcohol for over 25 years; her sons Jim and Craig’s long and faithful combined military service of 37 years; her son Brian’s exceptional longtime dedication that is unmatched by others to his longtime employment but more even so- his family; her daughter Lisa’s devotion to her marriage, as well as all her grandchildren, But most ultimately she was proudest of her joyous marriage to her husband Phil, of 41 years and counting. There were many things she enjoyed to pass the time, whether it was quietly reading a book or crocheting countless baby blankets for one of her many grandchildren or friends, collecting angels, or tending to her garden of colorful flowers. She was a woman who was loved and adored by anyone who met her. She was always looked to for advice, love, and consoling.

As she was surrounded by her loving family as God reached his hand to Jean. The Angels wrapped her in their arms, and carried her upwards to heaven, where she too will become an angel to watch over her deeply loved family and friends.

Jean is survived by her husband Phil; children, Jim (Tracy) Wright, Montello, Craig (Sandie) Wright, Chesapeake, VA, Lisa (Rick) Price, Wautoma, Brian Wetzel, Portage; grandchildren, Brandon Wright, Jamie Wright, Aryel Wright, Jordan Wopat, Olivia Wright, Abbigale Wright, Heidi Wright, Jimmy Price, Sam Price, Ricky Price. Savannah Wetzel, Colten Wetzel, Hanna Wetzel, Sariah Wetzel, Jade Wetzel; step-sisters, Gail Beatty, Portage, and Joanne Morancy, Portage; brothers- and sisters-in-law, David (Ingrid) Wetzel, Milwaukee, Sherry (Bob) Otto, Milwaukee, Cindy Wetzel, Fremont, and Calvin (Christine) Wetzel;  her best friend, Tracy Spellman, Portage; many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother- and father-in-law, Arnold and Agnes Wetzel, and her brother-in-law, Daniel Wetzel.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.  Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
