Michael Paul Patik

 

DEFOREST -- Michael Paul Patik, 67, of DeForest, WI died Saturday, March 14, 2015.

He was born on April 12, 1947 in Oskaloosa, IA, the son of Joseph Paul Patik and Betty Louise (Potter) Patik. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1965 and then attended Iowa State at Ames where he got his degree in Civil Engineering in 1971. He began working at General Engineering in Portage WI immediately following graduation. On a trip to Israel in 1981, he met Donna Weninger, whom he married on July 9, 1983. Mike and Donna had three children, Brenda, Leah (husband Nathan Miller), and Andrew. After Mike began working for Donahue in Madison, the family moved to Deforest, WI. He remained with the company (currently AECom) for many years. In recent years he was a contracted worker with FEMA, leading Mike to work around the country and indirectly leading to a stint in New Zealand for a time doing earthquake recovery.  His most recent assignment was in New York City.

Mike was a quiet man who enjoyed puzzles, trains, and naps. He was a loving family man, and was a dedicated member of CrossPoint Assembly of God for 30+ years.  He loved photography and was usually too often behind the camera to be in any pictures himself.  He was a big fan of The Three Stooges, especially Curly, and shared that love with his family.  He had a special way with children, sharing their love of Legos, and was always willing to get down to their level to play. Astronomy fascinated him, and he shared his telescope views with family and friends.  Woodworking and radio-controlled planes were also hobbies.

Besides his wife and three children, Mike is survived by two brothers, Joseph (Barbara) of Cohoes, NY and John of Oskaloosa, IA, and three sisters, Mary of Independence, MO, Jean Gregan of Terrebonne, OR, and Anne of Oskaloosa, IA, beloved aunt and uncle Rose and Paul Eveland also of Oskaloosa, IA, his mother-in-law Ethel Weninger of Jackson, WI, nine brothers-in-law and 8 sisters-in-law (Jerome and Betty Weninger of Frederiksted, St. Croix,  U.S. Virgin Islands, Joanne and Michael Schmitz of Rolla, MO, Bruce and Caroline Weninger of Kewaskum, WI, Ronald Weninger and Lois and Larry Gundrum of Slinger, WI, Nancy and Thomas O’Neal of Indianapolis, IN, Karen and Daniel Vogt of Hartford, WI, Thomas and Yvonne Weninger and Brian Weninger of Jackson, WI, and Elizabeth and John Maczuzak of Ripon, WI) and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Joseph Weninger, and two brothers-in-law, Alan Weninger and Douglas
Gregan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, March 20, 2015, at CrossPoint Assembly of God in Portage, with Rev. Randy Mantik officiating.  Inurnment will be private in Oskaloosa, IA at a later date.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at the church.  

Memorials may be made to the CrossPoint Assembly of God Missions fund.
