William J. "Bill" Mulligan

PORTAGE  – William J. “Bill” Mulligan, age 85, died on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage. 

Bill was born in Portage at St. Xaviers hospital, on December 28, 1929, the only child of William and Catherine (O’Keefe) Mulligan.   He attended St. Mary’s school, and graduated from Portage High School in 1948. After high school he attended UW-Madison through the ROTC program, he graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1952.  He entered the United States Army on September 9, 1952 and served his country in Korea during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in August 1984, after serving in the Reserves.   In 1969, he moved back to Portage to assist his mother.  Bill worked for Atkinson’s Department Store for many years, and at the RAM Hotel. 

He is survived by family members and friends.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin, Raymond Robinson. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
