Susann “Sue” Mae (Skogen) McDonald

PORTAGE  --   Susann “Sue” Mae (Skogen) McDonald, age 76, was called home on Friday, January 2, 2015.  Sue was surrounded by her loving family at home after a very courageous battle with cancer.

Sue was born December 12, 1938 in Ojibwa, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Raatz) Skogen.  Sue married Phillip R. McDonald on April 19, 1958 at the United Methodist Church in Portage, Wisconsin.  Sue will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends she made during her years working at AMPI and several banking institutions in the Portage / Pardeeville area whom she missed after retiring.  Sue enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family at the cottage they owned on Mulhern Lake.

Sue is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Phillip “Phil” McDonald;  her daughter, Kelly (Phil) Wade, grandson William “Billy” Schultz, Jr. (her pride and joy);  her son, Timothy (Diane Roy) McDonald;  her step-brother, Ron Heyman of California;  many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jerry and Barry Skogen, and step-brother, Roy Heyman.

Private family funeral services will be held at Sue’s request.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Home Health United for their kindness and excellent care.  Mom so appreciated her very special nurse, Alecia, and called her “My Alecia” and said she wouldn’t trade her for anyone.  They would also like to thank Charlie Mantey and the staff at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home for assisting the family.

God saw she was getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around her
And whispered, “Come with Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched her suffer
And saw her fade away,
Although we loved her dearly
We could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
