Nancy S. Marquardt

POYNETTE - Nancy S. Marquardt, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Columbia Healthcare Center, in Wyocena, with her family by her side.

She was born on August 16, 1936 in Shullsburg WI, the youngest daughter of James Evan and Devota (Billings) Stoycheff.  She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Marquardt on April 20, 1963.  After her high school education at St. Clara Academy in Sinsinawa, WI, Nancy attended a year of nurses training in Dubuque, IA, and then moved to Madison, WI to obtain an associate degree. Nancy worked for several years at USGS in Madison until she began having children. The most important thing in Nancy’s life was her family.  She made countless sacrifices in her personal and professional life to further the development of her children and husband, taking great pride in their accomplishments.  She began working at the Poynette Clinic soon after it opened when her children were all in school. She later obtained her real estate and appraisal licenses and worked with Dick in their business for many years.  Nancy served on the Sauk-Columbia Board of Realtors, as President from 1988-89. She was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church serving as a lector and extra ordinary minister of communion. She also enjoyed volunteering at Poynette schools at several different times in her life, the most recent being with Amy Koch’s 1st grade class, which she truly loved. Nancy taught her grandchildren to play cribbage, and continued to win most of those games until her passing. Nancy enjoyed curling with her husband Dick, winning the National Mixed Curling championship in 1978. She was an avid reader and traveler.  Most of all she enjoyed any time spent with family and every moment spent with her husband, Dick, the love of her life.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Marilee (David) Plagenz of Mondovi, WI; grandchildren Kate and Brett; son William (Corina) of Centennial, CO, and grandchildren, Blake, Chelsea Devota and Mitchell; and son Kurt (Betty) of Poynette, and grandchildren, Trevor and Abbey, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick, her sister, Helen Zander, and all of her other brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette with Fr. Paul Eruva presiding.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be made to the Friends of Poynette Library.
