Pearl Klaila

POYNETTE  --   Pearl Klaila, age 90, of Poynette, went to join her loved ones in heaven on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Pearl was born in Madison, the daughter of Charles and Elvera (Bork) Spalding on January 18, 1925.  She grew up in the Madison area moving to Camp Perry on Lake Wisconsin near Poynette in 1939.  She graduated from Lodi High School in 1942.  On November 9, 1943 she married Maurice L. Breneman and they settled in the Town of Dekorra.  Pearl worked at the local canning factories.  On August 25, 1959, she married William R. Klaila in Greenville, South Carolina.  He was a member of the USAF at Donaldson AFB, South Carolina.  They moved on to Savannah, Georgia; Dover Delaware; and Otis AFB, Massachusetts.  Pearl was an active member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Wives Club at each base they moved to.  When Bill went to Vietnam, Pearl and the children moved back to her home near Poynette.  Pearl worked at the Department of Revenue in Madison and then the Department of Transportation.  She retired in 1991. 

She enjoyed traveling with friends and she loved to dance, meeting her friends in Madison at the dances. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher and was an active member of the Poynette United Methodist Church.  Her favorite times were when her family came home for all the holiday dinners and birthday dinners at her house.  She loved having her grandchildren spend the weekends with her as they grew up.  She will be greatly missed by her family.  

Pearl is survived by her son, Charles (Dorothea) Breneman, of Anchorage, AK; her daughters, Marjorie (Steven) Paskey, of Poynette, and Corrine Lennon, of Endeavor; her son-in-law, Douglas Gladem, of Poynette; her grandsons, Steve (Nicole) Gladem, of Poynette, and Justin C. Breneman, of Anchorage, AK; two granddaughters, Krystal and Lacey Lennon of Endeavor; four step-grandchildren, Danette Gladem (John Swadley), of Utica, Jonie (Matthew) Statz, of Waunakee, Michael (Faith) Gladem, of Portage, and Timothy Gladem of Las Cruses, NM; her great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Mason Gladem; her step-great-grandchildren, Autumn, Ashelyn, and Alx, Leah and Cole, Luke, Grace and Maggie, Tia and Jada, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter, Roberta Gladem, two brothers, Raymond Spalding, and Bert Spalding and three sisters-in-law, Sadie Spalding, Ann Halpen, and Carol Klaila.

Thank you to the staff at Country Terrace in Poynette and Agrace Hospice Care. 

Pearl touched so many lives.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Poynette Inch United Methodist Church, 402 S. Main Street, in Poynette with Rev. Diane Vielhuber officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the church.
