Anita J. Hatch

PORTAGE  --  Anita J. Hatch, age 80, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Anita was born on December 16, 1934 at home in Stitzer, Wisconsin, the daughter of Elmer and Margaret (Leist) Becker.  She attended Stitzer Elementary Grade School and graduated from Fennimore High in 1952.  Anita attended Madison Business College from September 1952 until June 1953.  On September 20, 1957, she was married to Toni Hatch of Lancaster, WI at the Stitzer Methodist Church.   Together with Toni, she was co-owner of Hatch Building Supply in Madison from 1976 until 1996.  Anita was a member of Sun Prairie United Methodist Church from 1963 until 1997, and Portage United Methodist Church from 1997 until the present, where she was involved in many activities.  Her other interests included spending time with her grandchildren who called her Nana Cookie as she loved to bake, gardening, stitchery, golf and crafts.  Anita was an avid bridge player and participated on a women’s bowling team for several years.  She and her husband moved to Portage in 1997, where she enjoyed living at Saddle Ridge on Swan Lake.  Anita enjoyed summer travels to Montana to see their son, Randy, fall trips to Door County, Iowa football games, and she wintered in Destin, Florida with her husband.  She was a member of Women’s Civic League of Portage.  

She is survived by her husband, Toni;  her children, Randall K. Hatch of Belgrade, MT, Kimberly A. Ault (Dan) of Inverness, IL, Kelly J. Endres (David) of Sun Prairie, WI, and Robert D. Hatch of Lodi, WI;  her grandchildren, Kelsey Ault, Hannah Endres, Grace Endres, Robby Hatch, and Nellie Hatch;  her siblings, Vanda Vorwald, and Judy (Barry) Chisnell;    many nieces and nephews, other relatives and close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Beverly Lind and her brother, Norman Becker.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Portage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to River Haven Homeless Shelter for women and children, 108 E. Pleasant St., Portage, WI 53901.
