Maurice W. “Moe” Duffy

PORTAGE  --  On August 25, 2015, after a life filled with love, faith, family and service, Maurice W. Duffy, age 89, passed from this Earth to eternal life.

Maurice was born on October 5, 1925 in the Township of Buffalo, the son of Thomas and Regina (Cotter) Duffy. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. Maurice was married on May 4, 1957 to Kathleen Dushek at St. Mary Church in Portage. “Moe” worked for General Telephone Company for 42 years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage. Throughout his life, Maurice was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Communication Workers of
America, and the City of Portage Zoning Board. He volunteered in so many capacities for the community and church, including delivering Meals on Wheels, and serving as an usher at St. Mary’s for many years. His pride and joy were his loving wife, his six daughters, their spouses, his eight grandchildren and new granddaughter-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his daughters, Marie (Paul) Metz, Fairbanks, Alaska, Carol (William) Austin, Portage, Rita (Jerome) Perez, Vancouver, Washington, Jane (Thomas) Baeten, Ashwaubenon, and Judy (Gerald) Benish, Mineral Point; his grandchildren, Kathleen, Elizabeth and Patrick Austin, Lucas (Brooklyn) and Logan Benish, Troy Metz, William and Madalyn Baeten; his sister, Mary Jean Dushek; his brothers-in-law, Bernard Dushek and M. James Dushek; sisters-in-law, Patricia Duffy and Beatrice Duffy; many nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Karen Duffy, and his brothers, Earl, Max (his twin), Jim and John Duffy, and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Pat Duffy, Harold and Margaret Dushek, Robert and Trudy Dushek, Arthur Dushek and Janet Dushek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Portage Area Veteran’s Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where a Scripture Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Mary School and/or Church or the American Heart Association.

A special thank to Katy Beth, for the many months that she helped take care of her grandpa.
