David A. Young

PORTAGE, WI -- David A. Young, age 80, of Portage, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Tivoli in Portage, Wisconsin.

David was born on June 12, 1933, in Park Falls, WI, the son of Alan and Rachel (Babcock) Young. After graduating from UW Stout, he briefly served his country in the U.S. Army, prior to starting his career in education. He was an industrial arts teacher at high school and technical school level in Illinois and Kenosha-area, WI. Following graduate studies at Purdue and UW-Madison, he was a technical training coordinator/advisor for Cooperative Educational Services Agency (CESA) in Portage, WI. After completing computer science studies at MATC, he was a computer programmer for CUNA, before moving to Alaska in 1984. He taught computer classes and served as educational coordinator for Wildwood Facility of Alaska Dept of Corrections located in Kenai, AK. While living in Portage (1970s), he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Toastmasters and Optimist Club. 
He is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Wes) Pinchot, Denver , CO, Annette (John Schneider) Rico, Sharpsburg, PA, and Marilyn (Mark) Blackley-Braund, Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, David (Kimberly) Rico, Vero Beach FL, Tiffany (Ben) Werner, Madison, WI,  and Allyson (John) Hicks , Sebastian, FL; and three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jonathan T. Young.

Visitation with a Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Chaplain Monica Holden officiating. Inurnment will be private and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tivoli Quality of Life Campaign, and sent to: c/o Tivoli Divine Savior Hospital and Nursing Home, 2805 Hunters Trail, P. O. Box 387, Portage, Wisconsin 53901.
