Sharon Lee (Kleist) Wonderly

KING / PORTAGE — Sharon Lee (Kleist) Wonderly, age 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King.  Sharon suffered with severe dementia/Alzheimer’s for many years.
Sharon was born on July 21, 1945, in Portage, to Donald Louis and Esther Grace (Hiller) Kleist.  She graduated from Portage High School in 1963.  After graduation, she joined the Army, leaving after serving her two years to raise her family.  She married Earl Wonderly in 1979.  Earl was a wonderful husband to Sharon.  They lived in Milwaukee where she worked in a bank.  She then joined the National Guard and they moved to Tomah.  After moving to Portage, she worked at WPS in Madison, and at a bank in Baraboo, still serving in the National Guard.  From 1990-1991 she served a tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm with the National Guard.  Sharon served her country proudly.  Unfortunately her health forced her to leave the National Guard.  After Earl passed away, Sharon’s health continued to decline, and in 2007 she moved into the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King.  While in the Veteran’s Home, Sharon made many new friends and received the best of care.
Some of Sharon’s interests were shooting pool, traveling, Bingo, always, always music, and just being with family and friends.  She was one to make friends easily.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Peri D. (Ron) Hansen, of Holts Summit, MO; a son, Donald W. (Kayla) Still of St. Clair, MO; her granddaughters, Bethany Johnson of Union, MO, Brittany Fain, of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Brandi Fain, of Holts Summit, MO; her great-grandsons, Tyler, Kenny and Ryan, all of MO; three sisters, Donna J. Shaw, of Sikeston, MO, Kathy A. (Charles) Hupf, of Sheboygan Falls, and Linda L. (Kent) Napralla, of Montello, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her father in 1973, her husband in 1997, and her mother in 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Denise Cole officiating.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery with Portage area veterans conducting Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King and ThedaCare At Home Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Sharon.  She loved and enjoyed them all.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King, N2665 Cty. Rd. QQ, King, Wisconsin, 54946.
