Evelyn M. O'Malley Vik WYOCENA -- Evelyn M. O’Malley Vik, age 94, died on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. Evelyn was born on June 1, 1919 to George O’Malley and Lillian Bresnan O’Malley at the family home in Fort Winnebago Township. She graduated from Portage High School and then from Madison Business College in Madison. Evelyn was employed by the Wisconsin Unemployment Office in Wisconsin Rapids in 1937, and in September of 1938 returned to Portage, working at General Engineering Company, the Wisconsin Regulatory Board and the Portage Levee Commission. During WWII she worked at Badger Ordnance Works and in the engineering department of Mason and Hanger Construction Company. During the course of her career, Evelyn was clerk for Fort Winnebago Township for 12 years. She was employed at the District Attorney’s office at the Columbia County Courthouse in Portage. She later retired from Miller and Miller law office in Portage. On June 22, 1946 she married Harold O. Vik at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage. To this union were born two girls, Mary and Jane. Evelyn enjoyed travelling and visited all 50 states and six continents with her husband. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and Packer and Badger football games, as well as NASCAR, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She belonged to the Garrison Homemakers Club for over 50 years, was a 4-H leader and belonged to the Wauona Women’s Club, the Elkettes and other organizations. Evelyn was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Columbia Healthcare Center.
