Ethel E. Sutter

PORTAGE  --  Ethel E. Sutter, age 95, of Portage, formerly of Sun Prairie, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Tivoli in Portage.

Ethel was born on September 30, 1917, in Hampden Township, Columbia County, the daughter of Alvin M. and Catherine (Fruth) Feuling.  She graduated from Central High School in Madison.  On January 24, 1940, she married Francis L. Sutter at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison.  Francis and Ethel farmed in the Town of Sun Prairie for over 40 years.  Francis preceded her in death in 1983.  In 1998, Ethel moved to Portage.  Ethel was an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new recipes;  she did ceramics for many years, making many beautiful pieces for her family;  she enjoyed traveling and writing about her trips;  and she was also an accomplished seamstress, making most of her own clothing, as well as clothes for her children over the years.  She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage.

Ethel is survived by her children, Louise (Michael) Tomski, Green Bay, Michael (Anita) Sutter, Merrimac, Jerome (Maggie) Sutter, Blanchardville, Richard (Kathy) Sutter, Pardeeville, Monica (Terry) Miller, Daleyville, Dennis (Jeri) Sutter, Pardeeville, and Douglas Sutter, Luxemburg; her grandchildren,  Caroline Olson, Merrimac, Natalie (Rick) Newman, Baraboo, Sean (Sherree) Rifenberick, Big Lake, MN, Scott Rifenberick, Burnsville, MN, Michelle (Ron) Wilson, Cloudcroft, NM, Errin (Luke) Hiltbrand, Ridgeway, Katie Sutter, Mt. Horeb, Patrick Reusch, Fort Hood, TX, Brennen Reusch, Aurora, IL, Christopher (Erica) Sutter, Houston, TX, Daniel Sutter (Pam), Prairie du Sac, Elizabeth Cronin, Portage, Miranda Miller, Daleyville, Alisa (Brendan) Buckingham, Menomonee Falls, Megan Miller, Daleyville, Jessica (Jason) Alden, Endeavor, Adam (Amanda) Sutter, Green Bay, Kristin Sutter, Daegu, South Korea, Aubrey (Terrence) Brennan, DePere, Zachary Sutter, Minneapolis, MN, and Luke Sutter, St. Paul, MN; her great-grandchildren, Teresa, Mandy (Luke), Tyler, Teagan, Jackson, Benjamin, Liam, Max, Bradley, Avalyn, Tristan, Emma, Jack, Anastasia, William, Adelyn, Cameron, Cadence, and Reid;  a great-great grandson, Gage;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis, her son, Frederick Sutter, her daughter, Annette Sutter Cull, her sister, Lucille Feuling, and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Harold) Brunsell. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will take place in Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Sun Prairie, on Monday at 3:30 p.m.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where the rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m.    

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Tivoli and Southern Care Hospice, for the loving care given to Ethel.
