Alma D. Pence

PORTAGE  --  Alma D. Pence, age 85, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at American Way Assisted Living in Portage.

Alma was born on November 25, 1927 in Caney, Kentucky, the daughter of Clayton and Opal (Benton) Chester. She married John Pence in Dayton, Ohio in 1946. Alma worked at Divine Savior Nursing Home for over 30 years. Alma loved to sew, do embroidery and read.

She is survived by her 6 children, Candy (Bob) Bulgrin, Portage, Ann Pence, Portage, Judy Milsaps, Florida, John (Heidi) Pence, Amherst, James (Donna) Pence, Portage and Jeffery Pence, California; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren;; 3 brothers, James (Ruth) Chester, Ohio, Buford (Barbara) Chester, Texas, and Chad (Nancy) Chester, Oklahoma; other relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Pence in 2005, one grandson and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at CrossPoint Assembly of God with Rev. Randy Mantik officiating. Burial will follow in Welsh Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Krumpos and the staff at American Way and a special thanks to Lorraine Snooks Wooster for the loving care shown in Alma’s last days.
