Robert S. "Okie" Okan

REEDSBURG/PORTAGE – Robert S. “Okie” Okan, age 84, of Reedsburg/Portage, died on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home. 

Okie was born on May 22, 1929 in Beaver Dam, to Esther (Dove) Tucker and Frank Okan.  He served his country in the United States Air Force for 3 years.  Okie married Patricia Vander Perren on February 6, 1951.  He owned and operated Portage Magneto and Electric.  He was also a volunteer firefighter for many years.     

Okie is survived by his wife, Patricia Okan, Reedsburg; his children, Kevin (Theda Nelson) Okan, Pardeeville, Susan (Jay) Tenley, Middletown, MD, Keith (Amy) Okan, Centerville, MN, Christopher (Jess) Okan, Portage, and Craig Okan, Portage; 14 grandchildren; his brother, Randy Okan, Burnsville, MN, his son-in-law, Harlan (Joleen) Davison, Antigo, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by parents, his daughter, Pamela, his son, Brian, and his sister, Shirley Berger.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
