Richard W. “Dick” Marquardt POYNETTE -- Richard W. “Dick” Marquardt, age 78, departed this life on Monday, March 4, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born at home in Baraboo on October 24, 1934, son of Frank and Hazel (Zehnpfennig) Marquardt, and united in marriage to Nancy Stoycheff on April 20, 1963. Dick attended the University of Wisconsin, he was a fraternity member of Alpha Gamma Rho and received a BS in Agriculture in 1956 and BBA in Finance and Insurance in 1959. He purchased the former Harley MacKenzie insurance agency in Poynette in 1961 and expanded into Real Estate and Appraisals which he operated until his death. Dick enjoyed serving his community as a board member for Columbia County, serving on the Recycling, and Human Resources Committees, the Village of Poynette, Optimist Club, Poynette Chamber of Commerce, and Divine Savior Hospital Board for 12 years. Dick loved curling. He won the state men’s championship in 1967 and the National Mixed Curling Championship with his wife Nancy in 1978. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, traveling and polka dancing. Dick is survived by the love of his life, wife Nancy; daughter Marilee (David) Plagenz of Mondovi, WI; grandchildren Kate and Brett; son, William (Corina) of Centennial, CO, and grandchildren, Blake, Chelsea and Mitchell, and son Kurt (Betty) of Poynette, and grandchildren, Trevor and Abbey. He is also survived by siblings Robert, Russell (Shirley) and Lou Ann (Joe) Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Friends of Mackenzie or Friends of Poynette Public Library. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. |
