Marcia A. Henney

PORTAGE  --  Marcia A. Henney, age 88, of Portage, died on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Our House in Portage.

On a quiet, beautiful, snowy day, Marcia A. Henney peacefully passed from this life to join her beloved husband Tom.  Born Marcia Anne Carr on September 18th, 1925 in Kansas City, MO, she spent the bulk of her childhood in St. Mary’s, KS, before moving to Harlingen, TX, where she graduated from high school.  During WW II, she worked at the Air Force base there, where she met her future husband, Tom Henney, who was at the time a young pilot.  They were married on the day the base closed and Tom brought his young bride back to Wisconsin. They started their family while Tom was in medical school and when he completed his studies, they moved to Portage where she lived until retirement in 1982, after raising an active family of four children.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Tom in 1986, and has lived much of the intervening time in southern Texas before returning to Wisconsin in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robin Lesher, and son-in-law, Robert Swanson. Marcia loved entertaining, sewing, cooking, music, and traveling, but her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Swanson of Verona, Tim (Rhea) Henney of Portage, Sheila Lesher of Apple Valley MN, and Colleen (Jim) Murphy of Portage, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.
