Carolyn Joy Hallett

PORTAGE  --  Carolyn Joy Hallett, age 69, of Portage, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Tivoli, following a two year battle with cancer.

Carolyn was born on September 14, 1943 to Frank “Bud” and Joyce (Brown) Dangerfield in Sharon, Wisconsin.  She graduated in 1961 from Bigfoot High School in Walworth, and nursing school in 1964 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.  On September 19, 1964, Carolyn was married to Edwin Hallett at the Sharon United Methodist Church.  Her work history included VA Hospital in Milwaukee, Swedish American Hospital, Columbia County Nursing Home, and Jefferson Home Health/REM/H.H.U.  Carolyn was a member of Portage United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, and Wauona Womens Club.  She was an avid book reader, enjoyed birdwatching, working crossword puzzles, supporting the Humane Society, and just taking care of everyone.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin “Ed” Hallett;  two sons, Jeffrey (Martha) Hallett and Steven Hallett;  her daughter, Christine Hallett;  four grandsons, Zachary, Jacob, Matthew and Samuel Hallett;  her brother, Richard “Dick” Dangerfield;  her brother-in-law, Don (Penny) Hallett;  four nieces and two nephews;  other relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed’s parents, Oren and Esther Hallett, Ed’s brother, Richard Hallett, and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Portage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Tuesday at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in Carolyn’s name, for a fund which will be designated to Portage United Methodist Church and UW Carbone Cancer Center.
